I think when it comes to mental health, we often dismiss our challenges simply because they are “in the mind.”
Like when we’re having an off day and our mental health starts impacting our physical energy, we tell ourselves to just push through, to get it together, to keep going.
But the truth is, those are the exact moments when our bodies are asking us to slow down. To listen. To nurture ourselves with presence and care, the same way we would if we had a visible illness or injury.
It’s wild how often people still believe that if you can’t see an illness, it isn’t real — or that mental health struggles are “all in your head.” But anyone who’s ever experienced anxiety, burnout, or depression knows that the body feels it all. The exhaustion. The tension. The fog.
For me, tending to my mental health is one of the most important parts of my overall well-being. When I notice that my physical body is alerting me (fatigue, headaches, low motivation, or even tightness in my chest), it’s my cue to slow down and give myself the love and attention I need.
Here are a few of my favorite ways to regulate, ground, and restore balance:
- Epsom salt baths, sauna, and red light therapy — these help me relax my muscles and reset my nervous system.
- Spending time walking in nature — fresh air and sunshine always shift my mood.
- Eating grounding, nourishing foods like sweet potatoes and bison.
- Staying hydrated — water is medicine.
- Resting as much as I need to without guilt.
- Bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar masks — detoxing physically always makes me feel clearer mentally.
- Drinking magnesium powder and adding more omega-rich foods like salmon to support my brain and nervous system.
- Setting boundaries — saying no to what drains me and yes to what restores me.
One of the most impactful things I’ve added to my self-care routine lately is red light therapy. It’s been such a game changer for my mood, my energy, and even how my body recovers from stress.
If you’ve never tried it, red light therapy uses low-level wavelengths of light to promote cellular repair, reduce inflammation, and support both mental and physical well-being. It’s like giving your cells a mini recharge.
I personally use Red Therapy Co. and absolutely love their products. You can use code REDLOVE at checkout for a discount if you’re interested!
Because your mental health deserves the same level of care, intention, and love as your physical health.
