The Sacred Art of Trusting God with Carissa Johnsen

There comes a moment in every woman’s life when the old way stops working.

The plans that once felt safe start to feel heavy. The path that once made sense begins to lose its energy. And somewhere underneath the noise, the performance, the pressure, and the timelines… God starts whispering.

In this week’s episode of The World Needs Your Medicine, I sat down with the deeply wise and radiant Carissa Johnsen for a conversation about surrender, spiritual initiation, feminine remembrance, and what it really means to trust God when the next step makes absolutely no logical sense. Carissa shares that after years of success, burnout, unraveling, and deep inner work, she found herself being guided into a new season—one that required her to let go, sell nearly everything she owned, and follow an undeniable call to Greece with a one-way ticket.

What moved me most about this conversation is that it wasn’t just about travel or pilgrimage. It was about the holy courage it takes to release control. It was about learning to listen to the body again. It was about becoming the kind of woman who can hear God clearly enough to move before all the answers arrive. Carissa spoke so beautifully about how, in past seasons, she didn’t listen to those inner promptings and ended up in deep burnout and collapse. This time, she chose trust. She chose surrender before suffering forced it.

And I know so many women are in that place right now.

You may not be called to sell all your belongings and fly across the world, but maybe you are being called to leave the relationship, pause the business model, move to a new place, simplify your life, tend to your body, or stop overriding what you know is true. This episode is a reminder that clarity often doesn’t come before the leap. Sometimes it comes because of it. As Carissa shared, Spirit often asks us to take the step first, create the space, and let the path reveal itself from there.

One of the most powerful threads in our conversation was the understanding that intuition is not separate from embodiment. In fact, Carissa says embodiment is the foundation of intuitive development. She spoke about how many of us have become disconnected not because our inner knowing is gone, but because we are distracted, overstimulated, and disconnected from the body’s signals. She shared that intuition is cultivated through devotion, practice, and learning your own inner language—whether that comes through sensation, hearing, vision, knowing, or subtle energetic shifts.

We also talked about the sacred initiations that shape us.

Both Carissa and I reflected on those seasons where everything seems to fall apart—when your health declines, your old identity dissolves, your certainty disappears, and you feel stripped down to the bone. What if those seasons are not punishment? What if they are purification? What if they are preparing your vessel to hold more love, more truth, more power, more God? Carissa shared that the unraveling she experienced in 2020 ultimately cultivated a level of trust in herself, her body, her gifts, and God that changed everything. She described it as losing everything in order to reclaim her true self.

That part of the conversation hit me deeply, because I know so many women are walking through their own version of this right now.

We want the awakening, but we don’t always want the death that comes before it.

We want the clarity, but we don’t always want the stillness that requires.

We want the gifts, but we don’t always understand that the vessel has to be purified enough to hold them.

Carissa also shared about her time in Greece and the deeper feminine, oracular, and devotional codes that were reawakened there. She spoke about the ancient role of women as channels for divine wisdom, about the lost art of the feminine, and about the way sacred lands can activate remembrance within us when we are ready to receive it. Her reflections on reclaiming the voice, opening the throat, and becoming a clear vessel for God were some of the most potent moments of the entire episode.

And still, what I love most is that she keeps bringing it back to simplicity.

To prayer.

To slowing down.

To listening.

To letting the body speak.

At the end of the episode, Carissa offered such a grounded and practical practice for women who want to strengthen their intuition: create sacred space, come into meditation, ask your body to show you what a yes feels like, what a no feels like, and what “not yet” feels like. Then practice listening in small ways, over and over, for 40 days. She also emphasized something I believe deeply too: if we want to hear ourselves and hear God more clearly, we have to create more distance from the constant noise of technology. Boundaries with the phone, time in nature, nervous system regulation, and real presence with the body matter.

This conversation is for the woman who knows she is being asked into a deeper level of trust.

The woman who is tired of outsourcing her power.

The woman who feels a new season stirring but doesn’t yet have the full roadmap.

The woman who wants to come home to herself, to her body, and to God.

If that’s you, I think this episode will meet you right where you are.

Not with pressure.
Not with performance.
But with permission.

Permission to slow down.
Permission to listen.
Permission to trust the whisper.
Permission to become.
