If you’ve been doing the money mindset work and manifestation practices, and your relationship with wealth still feels stuck, this one is for you.

The Belief That Keeps Us Stuck

So many of us walk into our healing journey carrying a belief that says… if I just heal enough or work hard enough then the thing I want will finally arrive…

If I’m a good enough girl, dad will pay attention.

If I behave well enough in school, the bullies won’t notice me.

If I change the way I look, maybe I’ll finally be safe.

This pattern follows us into adulthood, and it follows us into our relationship with money. We start to believe that if we just fix ourselves enough, money will show up the way we want it to. And underneath that belief is something deeply familiar to anyone who’s done trauma work…

It’s the same pattern at the root of every survival response.

Why This Is Actually a CPTSD Conversation

I have a firm belief that most people walking around with distorted relationships to money are also walking around with some form of complex post-traumatic stress, and that this is what’s replaying itself in their wealth story.

When we grow up with attachment injuries, with parents who were physically present but emotionally absent, with experiences that severed our relationship to safety, we develop patterns of survival that follow us into every area of our lives. And money is one of the most fertile grounds for those patterns to replay, because money is everywhere. You can’t avoid it. It touches your daily life in a way that almost nothing else does.

So when you look at your bank account and feel that tight, panicked feeling in your chest… when you have a large bill at the register and feel a wave of shame wash over you… when you sit down to invoice a client and feel yourself shrinking… these are not money problems.

These are emotional flashbacks.

The Concept of Repetition Compulsion

In somatic wealth recoding technique, we call this a repetition compulsion. It’s when we unconsciously replay relational trauma responses through our relationship to something else. And money becomes the perfect stage for this, because the emotions money brings up are so familiar…

The feeling of never enough.

The feeling of being unsafe.

The feeling of having to perform or perfect to be worthy.

The feeling of shame when something doesn’t go right.

These aren’t reactions to money. These are reactions to the wounds underneath money, the wounds that were there long before any financial pattern ever showed up in your life.

What an Emotional Flashback Actually Looks Like

An emotional flashback is what happens when your emotional response to a present moment is way larger than the moment itself calls for. There’s a sense of catastrophizing. The inner critic gets loud. You start grasping for things to soothe yourself, scrolling, snacks, online shopping, a glass of wine.

The part of you that’s still carrying the wound is screaming that you’re not safe. And it feels so real, so present, that it’s almost impossible to recognize you’re actually in a flashback.

I had this experience recently when my husband and I went to Costco for our big seasonal stock-up. The total at the register was $900, and my body sank. Not because I couldn’t afford it… but because many years ago, I stood at a Costco register with a different man, in a very different life, with a very different financial reality, and that moment had landed in my body as shame and unsafety. The flashback was right there waiting for me.

Because I’m aware of my pattern now, I could meet it. I could move through it. I could ground myself and let the moment be what it was instead of what it was reminding me of.

But for so many of us, we don’t know that’s what’s happening. We just feel the wave of shame and assume it’s about the money.

The Seven Sources of Wounded Wealth

One of the things I teach inside Body of Wealth is that our wealth wound isn’t just shaped by money to money. It’s shaped by seven different sources of wounded wealth that leak into our financial reality.

You can be posting on social media for your business and feel the wounds of your sexual trauma surface.

You can look at your bank account and feel an emotional flashback from medical trauma.

You can sit in a networking room and feel the residue of religious trauma.

Money touches everything, which means every wound you’ve ever carried can show up in your relationship to it.

The Real Healing Is In Your Parts

Here’s what I’ve come to know after years of doing this work, both for myself and with the women I support.

You are not just one version of yourself. You are made up of parts. The afraid part, the brave part, the part that doesn’t give a shit, the part that’s exhausted, the part that’s hopeful, the part that’s resistant. Your wealth story is being shaped by all of them at once.

Your job is not to override these parts or shame them into compliance. Your job is to build a healthy relationship with them.

Because the parts of you that feel the most rejected, ignored, criticized, and unsafe around money are also the most creative and abundant parts of you, when they’re finally integrated and given a voice.

A Different Kind of Wealth Work

The reason most empowerment and mindset work doesn’t create lasting change is because it skips this step entirely. It tries to high-vibe over the parts that are wounded. It tries to manifest past them. It tries to bypass the trauma response with affirmations and visualizations.

And it works for a minute. You feel good. You feel motivated. And then you drop, you dip, you change.

The real work is slower. It’s grounded. It’s trauma-informed. It honors the body and the nervous system and the parts of you that have been carrying so much for so long.

It’s also the work that actually creates sustainable wealth. Because when you feel safe in your body, you get to be creative, curious, intuitive, and calm. Those are the frequencies that actually create prosperity.

A Gentle Closing Reflection

Wherever you are with money right now, I want you to know that the patterns you’re moving through are not because something is wrong with you.

They’re because something inside you has been trying to get your attention for a very long time.

And the moment we start meeting our wealth wound with that lens, everything begins to shift.
